Some of The Best Items I've Ever Bought For My Home

I love all the pieces in my home but there are some that I don't know how I would live without.  Here are some of the best things I've ever bought for my home.

Moroccan Pouf / The Versatile Stepping Stool

I bought a pouf for Jane's nursery from Joss & Main and it is one of the hardest working pieces in my home. Not only does it function as an ottoman for late night feedings but Jett rolls it all over the house and uses it as a stepping stool. He can reach anything with the help of this pouf. I love that it can wipe clean easily as well because let's face it, Jett's feet aren't always clean.

Sometimes it is also used to assist in gymnastic maneuvers.

My Outdoor Rug / The Warrior Rug

I am SO glad I got an outdoor rug for our dining area. This rug has sure put up with some intense wear and tear. It has had milk and juice spilled on it, playdough ground into it, snow, sand and dirt wiped all over it and lots and lots of food dropped on it. Since this table is by our back door it also functions as a door mat. We walk right over to it and wipe our feet as soon as we walk in. If you have young kids I can't imagine any other option than an outdoor rug. We've had it for over 3 years and it is still in great shape!

My Expedit Shelf / A Place For Everything & Everything in it's Place

This shelf is the best $139 I ever spent. I love how many things I can fit into these square shelves. What I love most about these shelves is that they could work in any room and in any space. No matter where we go in life this shelf will come with me.

What are some of the best items you've bought for your home?

  4. I second the Expedit. It's the best and so versatile. I'm getting another one for our basement as well. The other best thing I've ever bought is a Windsor bench off of Craig's List. It's the hardest working bench and I know it will transition easily into our next house as well.

  7. I love this post. The best thing I've ever bought is probably my PORTIS coat rack from Ikea. I bought it because I thought it was pretty, but it turns out we use it constantly! Our coats, hats, and umbrellas would be laying all over the place without it.

  8. I love our Expedit too. It's hard-working storage for our small apartment! We've got the one with eight shelves in our bedroom and it holds everything from shoes to fabric to my hairdryer (all in baskets, of course, to hide the randomness!).

  9. Outdoor rug=genius! I was just thinking yesterday that I need a rug under my dining table but don't want it to get ruined with spills, etc. Your idea just solved my problem!

  10. How do you clean an outdoor rug? I've read that you can just hose it down but if you have a large rug, and live in a top-floor apartment, that won't work.

  11. All great items, thanks for sharing! We sold our Expedit shelving right before we moved to CA, but I loved how it neatly tucked everything away!

  12. My best find was an antique secretary I bought 20 years ago. It's been used in every room of our house as a bar, in the bathroom, in the living room as a bookcase and now after a coat of paint and mirrors in the front in our bedroom, it holds our sheets!

  13. Love the Expedit shelving - need to invest in one. Where did you find the brown baskets to fit in them?

  15. +1 on the indoor/outdoor rug in high-traffic areas. I have a brown-patterned one in the kitchen entry and it's like a large door mat. Shows no dirt!

  16. one of the biggest life changers for me was a door stop with a magnet on it...so my self closing door can stay open while I bring in groceries. haha. In new york we get excited about any little thing to ease the hassle.

  17. Great list! I've been on the fence about getting a poof for the girls' room, and I think you just pushed me over to the 'go for it' column.

  18. Love our Expedits too! One of my favorites in our house is actually a chair that I bought at Goodwill and recovered the seat with a gorgeous mustard floral velvet fabric. I think part of the reason I love it so much is because it was my first DIY project to do all by myself (usually the hubby is the only handy one around here!). When my hubby came home, I was so proud to show it off! And all for less than $10! So, that's sentimental to me! Loving the idea of the outdoor rug for the dining area. Got to keep that in mind now that we have a 1 year old!

  19. Love that pouf...I want it so bad! Now that I know it has SO many uses, I might just have to splurge! My favorite pieces are the armoires in our dining room and in Stella's room. I love armoires, because you can put them anywhere, and they are SO functional when tight on space.

  20. i have my expedit in my garage holding all of the things that don't fit in my kitchen cupboards {we don't have a pantry!}. i really love the tufted leather storage ottoman in my living room, they help hide the kiddo clutter! i also love {and this is weird and kinda funny} the 5 double hooks i have hanging in the kiddo's bathroom. we have a very small house {1460 sq ft for a family of five!} and it keeps their small bathroom feeling tidy. i have a knitted pouf in ezra's nursery and adore that too!

love jane's nursery! i have a thing for abstract art! hi from candy kirby designs on IG :)

  22. wondering if you bought your pouf stuffed or unstuffed? seems like a big difference, but I couldn't imaging putting old towels in it as they recommend
