Office Details

Thanks to everyone for their nice comments about my office. It is truly my favorite room in my house. I have gotten several emails from people wondering about specific things so I thought I would do a little run-down about where I got everything.

It actually all started with the desk. Since I was spending all my time on the computer on the sofa or on the floor I was starting to develop some bad carpel tunnel in my wrist. So I decided I really needed to get a mouse. And if you have a mouse you kinda need a desk. And if you have a desk then you need an office! Anyway I knew I wanted a parsons desk so I actually found one on sale at Down East for $100. I have no idea who makes it. I've never seen a desk with green drawers but I really liked it.

The Ghost Chair knock-off is from here. It has been my favorite chair for a few years and I knew it's what I wanted. It is actually pretty comfortable but I wouldn't recommend it if you have a desk you sit at all day. After a few hours I have to get up and take a break. I also opted for the version without arms because it would have driven me crazy to have to scoot around them all the time.

I adore my curtains. I just love the color combination plus the print is so pretty. I got the fabric for an amazing deal at Home Fabrics. I am not sure where it is from or what it is called.  My seamstress Erin sewed them for me and she did an incredible job. She also sells a pillow of this fabric in her shop!

I got the rod at Hobby Lobby. It was like $11 with a coupon.

The roman shade was actually the second thing I got for the room. I also found it at Down East and it was only $20! I am obsessed with it. I love it so much. It is actually an inch too short on each side but with the curtains covering the gap you'd never notice.

Hanging in the corner of the room is this painting I got when I was in Russia. It has such special meaning to me. When I lived in St. Petersburg I'd go to the center all the time and this church is so beautiful.

I like to keep my desk pretty clean since clutter can tend to pile up. I have a cup with pens and scissors, a matryoshka doll from Russia and this great little bird print done by ashmae that I picked up at the Bijou market

Here is my inspiration board. I have also dreamed of having one and it really does inspire me when I'm working on projects. One day I'd like to have a bigger one but for now it works great.

The chandelier is one of my very favorite things. It's from CSN. The framed tree print is from Sugar Fresh. For some reason I found this image to be so calming. I just love the single tree with the birds and squirrel.

The chevron frame in my bookshelf is from Furbish. It is so beautiful. I want one in every color.

I still need to put some more things above the shelf. But for now I have my husband's diploma next to mine. I got the & sign from Hobby Lobby for $5.

The Expedit shelf is from Ikea. I know everyone has them but I have always loved them. Before I had this shelf everything was shoved into my closet in a very unorganized manner. Now everything has a spot and I love it. It really is the best feeling. The green boxes and baskets are from Ikea. They hold up okay. The boxes aren't the best quality but they work for the time being. Plus they were super cheap. I've blogged about the magazine holders here

I got this flokati rug at Tuesday Morning for $30. I love it. It is so soft and so far I haven't had any shedding problems.

There is still a lot of work I need to do. But for now it is working out great. I can't explain the happiness I feel from having a space all to myself.

Taking Risks

Here is the video from my segment today. Thanks to all of my clients/friends who let me show off their awesome homes! Those amazing graphic curtains are from the home of Erin who owns the shop Plush Studio. Of course she made them herself!

Game Room Surprise!

At the beginning of last week I was helping my client pick out paint colors when she mentioned to me that she and her husband's anniversary was at the end of the week and she wanted to surprise him by giving him a music/game room.  Seriously what a nice wife!

The room was being used for storage so we literally had to start from scratch. There was nothing in there but the guitars.

We had a small budget and a limited time period to pull this room off. But it turned out great!

Her husband had all these great guitars. We decided to display them on the wall. I love it when art is also functional. We stuck with simple white grommet curtains from Target.

A gallery wall displays family pictures and mementos from concerts. My client was able to score this great mid-century modern table for free! All the other shelves and accessories in the room came from Ikea.

I wanted to keep that mid-century modern vibe in the room. These chairs are from target and were an awesome deal! The table and rug are both from Ikea.

I am sure she is relieved to be done and her husband loved it!

My Life is an Open Book....

I am so excited to be participating in the blog crawl today created by Beth of Hello, Splendor. Yesterday we got to read a chapter from the life of The Cashmere Cowboy.
This series is entitled, "my life is an open book" and we are supposed to take a chapter from our lives to share with you. I thought I'd share the story of how I came to be a mom + designer.

That's me! A couple of years ago. Before baby.
The setting is Utah. Where I pretty much grew up and where I now live.
My family and husband are the characters in this little story. I'm the oldest of six kids and at the time that this story took place my husband and I were living with my parents and brothers and sisters.

I was in school and had a year left till graduation. My husband really wanted to have a baby but I wanted to wait.... a long time. I decided there really is never a right time to have kids and that we were just going to make it work even though I was in school. My family all helped me and supported me as I finally crossed the finish line of graduation.
I thought that it was perfect timing. I could graduate and be a stay at home mom....

... while I do get to stay at home with my beautiful boy Jett I also decided to start my own business! Half the time I think I am crazy because of how much work it is. But I love it. I never ever thought I'd want to work and be a mom but so far it is going great.  This part of my life is definitely a twist but the best things in life are sometimes unplanned.

There are so many fun people participating in this blog crawl. Be sure to check out aphrochic tomorrow!

Pretty Little Chandelier

So remember my lighting dilemma? Well I ended up choosing the chandelier and I LOVE it! I got it from CSN Stores. It came quickly and was really easy to install. (thanks hubby). Now you can see the progress I have made thus far on the office.

I'm still working on some refining details for the space but I just LOVE where it's at right now. I'll show you more details when I feel like I am finished.

All these photos were taken by Kara Shurtliff. She is a photography major at BYU and she is amazing. To see more photos of my home go to her blog!

Day Trip: New York City

( I met up with some great bloggers for lunch. I can't believe I got to meet Jamie and Nick. I LOVE them!)

I feel like yesterday flew by! All weekend I was debating whether to go or not. But since my husband is a pilot and I can fly for free I figured I had nothing to lose.

I took the red eye from Utah to New York and got about 2 hours of sleep. So not only was I super tired but I am sure I looked like I got ready for the day in an airport bathroom. Which I did.

I have been reading some mixed reviews about the show and I'm not really sure what to think. I guess I can understand where everyone is coming from but I had a great time. Maybe it's because I've only been blogging for about a year but I felt lucky just to be there. Surrounded by so many amazing people, in an incredible city, sitting just a few feet away from one my design heros. I don't know how many people in their life get a chance like that. I guess they could have made the show more blogger-oriented but I wasn't really expecting that going in. I didn't expect the royal treatment or to be showered with praise. It's his show. Not a blogger show. He gets to do whatever the heck he wants. That's how I feel. The end.

But can we just talk about how amazing the set was! Wow. I got to sit on one of the front rows and gawk over his amazing chevron rug and that great little table. So happy.

The very best part of the whole day was getting to meet some of my favorite designers in person.

I would have flown all the way to New York for the day just to get the chance to meet these ladies so it was all worth it. Traci and Emily have the most adorable accents. I seriously think I need to get a dialect coach to give me some kind of new voice. I just love them. I was so excited to meet Bryn. She is just as nice as I hoped she'd be.

Amanda and Chassity. I LOVED talking to these girls.

Getting to talk to and meet Jenny was so neat. If only these great ladies didn't live so far away. Maybe it's better though or I'd probably be stalking them and begging them to hang out everyday.

I wish I could have stayed for the after party but I had to rush back to catch my flight home. I literally sprinted to my gate at the airport and I barely made it home.

This was an experience that I will never forget. As a girl who used to spend her days waitressing and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life I felt like this day was a dream come true. I am so grateful.
