How to Arrange Throw Pillows

Marta is doing a how-to series on her wonderful blog. Check out my post on how to arrange throw pillows.

Since I've had some inquiry, the brown pillow is from Home Goods and it is amazing! The graphic coral pillow is from Be Still. I have it in my living room. The yellow floral pillow is from Target, the bigger yellow pillow was custom made and the large pillow with the small bud pattern is also custom made.

Feature Friday: M. Shanti Photo

Miranda is a photographer based out of Long Beach, California. She describes her style as comfortable modern with a whimsical sense of style and a lived-in feeling. Her home is functional for our young kids and she tries to stick to modern, clean lines and lots of COLOR!

Check out her fun modern home.

She used FLOR tiles all throughout this room.

That awesome wallpaper is from Graham and Brown.

The clear acrylic table acts as a nightstand and vanity. The suitcases are vintage.

Giveaway Winner

Congrats to Nicole-Lynn for winning the Field Trip Giveaway!

Dorm Room Design Day

Today a few of my fellow bloggers and I are teaming up to bring some inspiration to those students who are gearing up for college this fall. Here is a little concept that I put together for the student who is feminine, fun and a little flirty.

1. Every new college student needs a little prayer to make it through exams, boyfriend drama, roommate drama etc. I love this print from Perissom and Pink.
2. Pillows are a fun way to brighten up a room that you can't paint in. I love this teal pillow from Etsy.
3. This girly ruffle pillow adds the perfect feminine touch.
4. My husband and I couldn't paint in our first apartment but I still wanted to add some color to our room so I adhered a large ribbon to the wall using clear tacks. It run all along the room just under the ceiling and it looked like I had painted it on! In this room I would add a large navy ribbon to the wall.
5. Travel posters remind students to dream big and to explore life. What better place to follow your dreams than New York
6. I love this other travel poster as well. You can get some great ones on Ebay
7. I envision this photo clip hanging right in the corner. It's the perfect way to display pictures of all your new college friends!
8. A desk lamp is a must for late night studying. These ones from target are so fun and a great deal!
9, 12, 13. I would keep the bedding pretty simple. A simple white duvet and pink sheets. Dress up the bed with a great and colorful quilt folded up at the bottom.
10. One essential you'll need in a dorm room is something to cart your laundry around in. This ruffle bag from Urban Outfitters will have all your roomies jealous.
11. A small rug is a great way to make your dorm room feel more homey. I love this one from Urban Outfitters!

Russell + Hazel

I first fell in love with Russell and Hazel products when I worked at Alice Lane. All of their files are beautifully filed away in Russell and Hazel binders and folders. I love how crisp and clean everything looks. I am just now starting my office design and I've already order a few of their binders and folders to keep all of my clients organized.

Check out their sidewalk sale to snag some great deals. I just ordered the coolest business card organizer.

And look at this preppy desk and mood board design by Russell and Hazel.

Stay tuned for more of my office updates...

Feature Friday: When I Grow Up...

This weeks home tour comes to us from Meghan of When I Grow Up...  Her blog is great and I fell in love with her beautiful older home on Paul Street.

I asked Meghan to describe her design style and here is what she said:

"I suppose my style is to take elements from various periods and places and attempt to weave them into something thoughtful and beautiful.

I like to breathe life into crusty old things; I live for great, inexpensive flea market finds; I tend to start with lots of neutrals then accent with pops of color and a modern punch here or there. I cherish a piece with a story - either ours or some distant stranger’s. I guess I would say that my style is eclectic, and if something catches my eye, is functional, and makes me happy, I go with it.  Mostly, I like to be surrounded by things that I adore and have meaning to me."

I love that.

Take a look at her previous home on Paul Street.

The Entry Way

This antique ice chests sits in the entry.

Here is the view going up the stairs.

The Living Room

The Kitchen

She made that cute towel rack.

The Dining Room

This table was made out of floor boards from an old opera house.

Master Bedroom and Bath

She made this neat little "getting ready area" in a nook she had in her room.

The Nursery

Her dad made that cute hat rack.

This old cart has such a cool story behind it!

She made that mobile and...

... that cute owl pillow!

The Full Bath

Aren't those ceiling tiles beautiful!
